About TFSU
Tianjin is one of China's four direct-controlled municipalities, a national central city, a mega city, one of the first coastal open cities, an international consumption center, and a regional trade center. It is a national advanced manufacturing R&D base, the core area of northern international shipping, a financial innovation and operation demonstration zone, and a pioneering area for reform and opening- up. Tianjin is only around 30 minutes away from Beijing by high-speed train.
Tianjin Foreign Studies University, established in 1964, is one of China's eight prestigious institutions for higher education in foreign languages. TFSU is an institution of higher learning, with the discipline of Foreign Language & Literature taking the lead and Humanities, Economics, Administration & Management, Law, Education, Art, and Engineering balancing the overall disciplinary structure. The university now has two campuses occupying a total area of 470,000㎡. The three Wudadao campuses are located in the historical and architectural tourism area in Tianjin. The Binhai Campus is located in the picturesque university garden of Dagang District, Tianjin Binhai New Area (TBNA).
The university has established friendly cooperation with over 330 universities and educational institutions in more than 50 countries worldwide. The university is a designated institution for recipients of the Chinese Government Scholarship, International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship, Tianjin Municipal Government Scholarship for Foreign Students, as well as various specialized scholarship programs, including the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship- Master Program in Translation for International Students, the Sino-foreign University Language Partner Program, and the Sino- Indonesian Joint Training Program for Major of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages. Additionally, the university offers scholarship for international students studying at Tianjin Foreign Studies University. The university collaborates with other institutions like Tianjin Vocational University to jointly conduct programs for "Chinese Language + Vocational Skills" for international students. Every year, the university hosts over 2,000 long and short- term international students from more than 60 countries, pursuing undergraduate, master's, and doctoral degrees, or participating in short-term training programs.
YES Program
Since its launch in January 2024, the "Young Envoys Scholarship " (YES) Program has become an important window for young people from abroad to perceive and understand China and an effective platform for Chinese and foreign youth to get to know each other. In 2025, the YES Program at Tianjin Foreign Studies University will focus on integrating cultural elements from both countries and Tianjin's unique features, conducting various cross-cultural exchange activities, and enhancing the scale and quality of exchange and study programs for young people from the United States, France, and other European countries.

Project A: Telling Chinese Stories, Inheriting Sino-Foreign Friendship |
Through this project, participants from the United States and Europe will learn basic Chinese language and traditional Chinese culture, understand the history of Tianjin's development, and tell "Chinese stories" with Tianjin characteristics. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of China, experience the unique features of Tianjin, broaden their cultural horizons, enhance their respect and appreciation for different regional cultures, and deepen their understanding and perception of China's long history and traditional culture. |
Project B: Tianjin in Intangible Cultural Heritage |
1. Create a new model of "Chinese Language + Intangible Cultural Heritage." Relying on language courses, cultural lectures, and skill training platforms, this project will introduce Tianjin's intangible cultural heritage and folklore to participants from the United States and Europe. Activities include visiting woodworking workshops, experiencing the making of Tianjin clay figurines, Tianjin buns, and unique snuff bottle paintings, and further understanding Tianjin's intangible heritage and cultural inheritance through sensory and practical experiences. 2. Through cultural experience activities and visits to historical sites in Beijing and Tianjin, this project will integrate Chinese language learning to allow participants from the United States and Europe to appreciate the beauty of Chinese culture. |
Project C: Ink and Wash China |
1. This project aims to enhance the language skills of participants from the United States and Europe by using "ink and wash" as a medium. The course will be divided into five modules: "Easy Spoken Chinese," "Magic Chinese Characters," "Ink and Wash Poetry," "Tianjin Dialect," and "Chinese Opera." Participants will improve their Chinese listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills through reciting famous poems, listening to Tianjin dialect nursery rhymes, singing Chinese songs, appreciating traditional Peking Opera, viewing Chinese character illustrations, and painting ink and wash paintings. 2. Using "ink and wash" as a bridge, this project will improve participants' cross-cultural communication abilities. Through activities such as visiting museums, observing art works, and experiencing art creation, participants will gradually understand ink and wash art, Chinese aesthetics, and Chinese social values. |
Application Information
1. The program is open to students from the United States and Europe, including undergraduates, graduate students (master's and doctoral), teaching and research staff, administrative personnel, scholars, non-governmental organization members, corporate employees, and freelancers.
2. Applicants must be aged between 13 and 45, hold a valid U.S. or European passport, be in good health, and have no criminal record.
3. Applications can be submitted individually or as a group. Group applications must consist of at least eight people.
4. Application deadline: April 13, 2025. Applicants must complete the application form and send it to the contact email address.
5. Program duration: July to August 2025, for a total of two weeks.
Fees
1. Participants must purchase the designated medical insurance before entering China.
2. Participants are responsible for their round-trip airfare and visa fees.
3. Any additional materials and fees will be notified separately.
4. Except for the above fees, accommodation, meals, transportation, tuition, and other expenses incurred after entering China will be covered by Tianjin Foreign Studies University.
