天津外国语大学建于1964年，是我国八所传统知名高等外语学府之一，是天津市唯一一所主要外语语种齐全，文学、经济学、管理学、法学、教育学、艺术学、工学等多学科协调发展、特色鲜明的高等学校，是全国首批“高层次国际化人才培养创新实践基地”建设高校。学校现有五大道和滨海两个校区,总占地面积47万平方米。五大道校区三个院落分布在天津市历史风貌建筑文化旅游区内。滨海校区坐落在滨海新区大港高教生态园区内，湖光映翠，景色秀丽。
学校现有58个本科专业。其中，外国语言文学类专业33个（外语语种31个），中文、新闻学等文学类其他专业以及经济学、管理学、法学、教育学、艺术学、工学门类专业25个。学校拥有全国唯一的“党和国家重要文献对外翻译研究”国家特殊需要博士人才培养项目，7个硕士学位授权一级学科点（涵盖29个硕士学位培养方向），7个硕士专业学位授权类别（涵盖23个培养方向）。
学校现有全日制在校本科生和研究生万余人，生源覆盖我国全部34个省、市、自治区及特别行政区。学校现有教职工千余人，其中专任教师（含外籍教师）七百余人，专任教师中超过60%的教师拥有海外留学或工作经历，部分专业达到100%。
学校坚持走国际化办学之路，积极服务“一带一路”倡议，与世界50多个国家的380余所大学和教育机构建立了友好合作关系。学校是中国政府奖学金生、国际中文教师奖学金生、天津市外国留学生政府奖学金生以及国际中文教师奖学金-外国翻译硕士培养项目、中外高校语言伙伴计划项目、中印尼联合培养汉语国际教育专业学生项目等各类奖学金专项项目的接收院校，并设有天津外国语大学来华留学生奖学金。学校还与天津职业大学等高校联合开展“中文+职业技能”来华留学生培养。学校每年接收来自世界60多个国家的2000余名长短期留学生来校攻读本科、硕士、博士学位或者短期研修。其中，奖学金生占比超过80%，来自“一带一路”共建国家和地区的留学生超过50%。
学校与韩国、葡萄牙、俄罗斯等国高校合作开设10所孔子学院，葡萄牙里斯本大学孔子学院获批全球示范孔子学院，多所孔子学院被授予“先进孔子学院”荣誉称号，学校曾两次获评全球孔子学院先进中方合作机构。
学校于2011年建成国际学生公寓（国际交流中心），可容纳600多名学生同时入住，设施齐全，服务周到。
Tianjin Foreign Studies University, established in 1964, is one of China's eight prestigious institutions for higher education in foreign languages. TFSU is an institution of higher learning, with the discipline of Foreign Language & Literature taking the lead and Humanities, Economics, Administration & Management, Law, Education, Art, and Engineering balancing the overall disciplinary structure. It is recognized as one of the first institutions in the country to be designated as a "High-level International Talent Cultivation Innovative Practice Base".The university now has two campuses occupying a total area of 470,000㎡: the three Wudadao campuses are located in the historical and architectural tourism area in Tianjin. The Binhai Campus is located in the picturesque university garden of Dagang District, Tianjin Binhai New Area.
The university currently offers 58 undergraduate majors, among which, there are 33 majors in Foreign Language and Literature (covering 31 foreign languages), as well as 25 majors in other literary disciplines such as Chinese, Journalism, and various disciplines like Economics, Management, Law, Education, Arts, and Engineering. The school is home to the nation's only "Translation Research on Important Party and State Documents for Foreign Countries" national special needs doctoral training program. It also has 7 master's degree-granting primary disciplines (encompassing 29 master's degree training directions) and 7 categories of master's professional degree authorization (covering 23training directions).
Currently, TFSU has an enrollment of over 10,000 full-time degree candidates who come from 34provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions, as well as Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan regions nationwide. The university currently employs over a thousand staff members, including more than 700 faculty members, including foreign faculty. Among the faculty, over 60% have overseas study or work experience, with some disciplines reaching a 100% rate of faculty with international exposure.
The university adheres to thepath of internationalized education, actively supports the "Belt and Road" initiative, and has established friendly cooperation with over 380 universities and educational institutions in more than 50 countries worldwide. The university is a designated institution for recipients of the Chinese Government Scholarship, International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship, Tianjin Municipal Government Scholarship for Foreign Students, as well as various specialized scholarship programs, including the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship- Master Program in Translation for International Students, the Sino-foreign University Language Partner Program, and the Sino- Indonesian Joint Training Program for Major of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages. Additionally, the university offers scholarship for international students studying at Tianjin Foreign Studies University. The universitycollaborates with other institutions like Tianjin Vocational University to jointly conduct programs for "Chinese Language + Vocational Skills" for international students. Every year, the university hosts over 2,000 long and short- terminternational students from more than 60 countries, pursuing undergraduate, master's, and doctoral degrees, or participating in short-term training programs. Among them, over 80% are scholarship recipients, and more than50% come from countries and regions participating in the "Belt and Road" initiative.
TFSU has co-hostedtenConfucius Institutes in South Korea, Portugal, Russia,etc. The Confucius Institute at the University ofLisbon in Portugal has been granted status as a Global Model Confucius Institute. Several of these Confucius Institutes have been honored with the title of "Advanced ConfuciusInstitute," and the university has twice been recognized as an outstanding Chinesepartner institution among global Confucius Institutes.
The International Students’ Accommodation Center (Center ofInternationalExchange) was built in 2011 with the capacity ofaccommodating over 600students, boasting comprehensive facilities and attentive services.
