Chinese Government Scholarship-High Level Postgraduate Program is a full scholarship established by Ministry of Education, P.R.C to support designated Chinese universities to enroll outstanding international students for graduate studies in China.Tianjin Foreign Studies University (TFSU) is an institution of higher learning, with the discipline of Foreign Language & Literature taking the lead and Humanities, Economics, Administration & Management, Law, Education, Art, and Engineering balancing the overall disciplinary structure, and isone of China's eight prestigious institutions for higher education in foreign languages.
I.Categories, Majors,and DurationofScholarship
Masterand Ph.D.Students.
Details of majors and duration are given inAttachment 1.
II.Eligibility
1.Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens with a valid passport. For applicants who used to be Chinese citizens but later immigrated to other countries, the conditions set by the Document No. 12〔2020〕of Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China should be met;
2.Requirements for age, degree, and language:
Applicants applying for a Master degree should hold a Bachelor diploma and be under the age of 35 ;
Applicants applying for a PhD degree should hold a Master diploma and be under the age of 40.
Applicants shall be of good moral character, physically and mentally healthy, and willing to comply with Chinese laws and the regulations of TFSU.
Applicants for programs taught in Chinese must have a Chinese proficiency level of at least HSK Level 5 with a score of 180 or above for master's programs, and HSK Level 6 with a score of 180 or above for PhD programs. Applicants who have obtained a degree from a Chinese university using Chinese as the medium of instruction are exempt from submitting HSK certificates (but must provide proof of Chinese-taught program completion from the graduating institution). Applicants for programs taught in English must have an English proficiency level of at least IELTS 6.0, TOEFL 80, or an equivalent.
3.Applicants must not be recipients of other scholarship funding simultaneously. If discovered, the CGS qualification will be revoked, and the scholarship funds received must be repaid. Deliberate concealment of funding status will result in disqualification and ineligibility to apply for ChineseGovernment Scholarship for three years.
4.Applicants must also meet TFSU's admission requirements regarding academic ability, language proficiency, and other relevant aspects.
III.Scholarship Coverage
1.Tuition waiver andaccommodation on campus(international
students are required to live on campus);
2.Monthly Living Allowance:
3,000 RMB/month for Master students;
3,500 RMB/month for Ph.D. students;
3. Comprehensive Medical Insurance.
IV.Application Materials
1.Photocopy of passport(Ordinary passport expires afterMarch 31, 2027).
2.Scan Copy of highest degreeDiploma(Notarized Chinese/English translation required if original is not in Chinese/English;Scan of Pre-graduation Certificate is required if the applicants have not gained degree certificate. Please resubmit the original highest diploma upon enrollment).
3.Scan copy of complete transcripts for the highest degree (Notarized Chinese/English translation required if original is not in Chinese/English;Applicants who will not graduate before the application deadline must provide their current academic transcript. In this case, the completed academic transcripts must be submittedupon enrollment).
4.LanguageProficiencyCertificate (HSKcertificatewithin 2 years for
Chinese-taught programs; TOEFL 80, IELTS 6.0, Duolingo 110, or a certificate of English proficiency recognized by the relevant school for English-taught programs).
5.Study or Research Plan (written in Chinese or English, minimum
1,000 words; forPh.D.applicants, must be signed by the prospective Chinese supervisor. Please use the TFSU template provided in Attachment 2).
6.Two recommendation letters from professors or associate
professors (written in Chinese or English, focusing on the applicant's purpose for studying in China, any cooperation between the recommender's institution/TFSU supervisor and the applicant's current institution/supervisor, and an evaluation of the applicant's comprehensive ability and future potential.Recommender's signature and contact informationmust be included).
7.Scancopy of the original Foreigner Physical Examination Form (uniformly printed by Chinese health quarantine authorities, completed in English). Applicants must strictly follow the required items. Incomplete forms, forms without a photo/photo without a stamped seam, or without doctor/hospital signature and seal are invalid. The physical examination result is valid for 6 months (see Attachment 3).
8.Non-criminal record certificate issued by the local public security
authority within 6 months prior to the ChineseGovernment Scholarship application date.
9.Publications: Refers to academic papers published in public
journals, academic publications, or newspapers (excluding graduation theses); proof of participation in academic conferences, research projects, and other relevant academic activities.
10.Other supporting materials (including certificates for volunteer
activities, internships, competitions, continuing education, etc.).
11.Applicantsin Chinawho will not graduate before the application deadlinemustsubmit scan of Photocopy of Visaand proof of student performance from the current institution.
Notes on Materials:
1.All uploaded documents should be in Chinese or in English; otherwise notarial translations in Chinese or English are required. Once translated, the original documents and certified translations are to be submitted together to the application system.
2.Materials uploaded through the system must be clear, authentic, and valid. All files must be in PDF format.
3.TFSU does not accept application materials sent via postal mail.
4.If awarded the scholarship, the original versions of all above documents must be presented during registration for verification.
5.TFSU has not authorized any individual or agency for Chinese Government Scholarship student recruitment. Please contact the International Admission Office directly for application inquiries.
V.Application and Admission Procedures (Please refer to the actual situation if there are any changes in the time.)
Step 1: Applicants should register an account,fill in the application
information online, upload the application documents to the Online Application System(https://tfsu.at0086.cn/StuApplication/Login.aspx)before February 22, 2026.
Step2: After passing theapplicationreview, eligible applicants will be
notified to take written tests and/or interviews arranged by the relevant schools/departments.
Step3: Applicants who pass the tests/interviews will receive a
Pre-admission Notice,then log into the CSC Study in China application system(http://studyinchina.csc.edu.cn#/login), complete the online application (TFSU Institution Code: 10068, Program Category: Type B), and upload all required documents (see Attachment 4 for detailed instructions).
Step4: TFSU submits the recommended candidateslist to CSC.
Step5: CSC organizes expert review (Candidates not finally selected
by CSC will be prioritized for other TFSU scholarship or self-funded programs if they wish to apply).
Step6: Admission results are announced. Admitted students can
check and receive the Admission Notice and JW201 Form via the CSC website.
